Thrill Rides of Virginia - Kings Dominion

King’s Dominion is located in Doswell, Virginia, just 20 miles North of Richmond and 75 miles South of Washington D.C. It has recently been voted “ Virginia ’s Most Exciting Theme Park ” - with over 400 acres of fun and thrills around every corner. Enjoy some of the most spine-tingling roller coaster’s, one of the world’s largest drop towers with a 272 foot drop at a chilling 75 miles-per-hour, WaterWorks - 20 acres of water-filled fun for those hotter days, live shows for the whole family, and even a cute Nickelodeon area for the young ones.
The thrill rides at King’s Dominion bring you to amazing speeds and heights that will keep you screaming and sometimes even take your breath away completely. One of the most exciting rides is the impressive HyperSonic XLC an impressive roller coaster launch ride, taking you from 0-80 mph in less than 2 seconds! This incredibly fast launch catapults it’s passengers 165 feet straight up and then straight back down by using compressed air.
Another great roller coaster is the Flight of Fright which is propelled using linear induction magnets. This coaster has been placed indoors, taking riders through a cobra roll, a sidewinder, a corkscrew, and many other twists and turns. The coolest factor; the ride is based in almost complete darkness, leaving passengers unaware of what they are about to endure.
One of the theme park’s newest additions will be The Dominator which opens up on May 24, 2008. This roller coaster will be breaking 2 records. Passengers will not only be riding the largest, floorless steel roller coaster at 4,210 feet, they will also go through the world’s largest vertical loop all while traveling with speeds up to 65 mph.
